Tips Before Going to Jeju, Korea

January in Jeju

We went to Jeju island, South Korea on the 1st to 7th of January 2017.

At Camellia Hill, Jeju

Here are some tips before going to Jeju:

1. NO NEED FOR VISA YAY.

I am not sure why but I think it's because the island itself is for traveling (?)

2. RENT A CAR , bring international driving license

Why? There does not seem to be many local buses. There are buses but it may take some time to arrive and it might be hard to know which bus to take etc.

How? There are many rental car services in Jeju, one of the famous ones are LOTTE rent a car service you can see in http://lotterentacar.net/ . You can reserve online, and pay with credit card later. When you arrive at Jeju airport, go to their booth and show your reservation, they have free bus to the rental place so you can take the car from there.
However, if you are from Indonesia, they do not accept Indonesia's international driving license.
(I just know this when I showed the driving license and they say they don't accept)
THANKFULLY, there was a guy from another car rental company called 7 rent a car or something, who offered us rental car and he say Indonesia driving license is okay. YAY
So we rode their car to the rental company, payed for the car and insurance, and voila!

3. Driving tips in Jeju

The steering wheel is on the left side of the car, so if you are not used to driving on the left, please drive slowly. (It was a scary experience seeing my dad drive on the left and almost hitting into the side of the road)

If it is a two way road, keep to the right side of the road. (In Indonesia, we keep to the left side of the road, and the right side is usually for faster cars, in Jeju it is the other way around)

There are different speed limits for different areas. Sometimes it is 50km/h, sometimes it is 70km/hr. The GPS in the car will tell you the speed limit for the area and warn you if you are going over the speed limit.
Don't worry about getting lost, the car's GPS is very accurate and will tell you where to go as long as you input the right destination.

4. What to prepare for your trip

- Your itinerary of course! Make a list of the places you want to go to, with details such as the English name and the Korean name (written in Hangul or Korean alphabets) of the places, addresses, opening time, and ticket prices.
- Learn how to read Hangul (Korean alphabets). Not a must but this is useful if there are no English writing in some restaurants, or if you have to input the Korean name into GPS (in case the English name of the location does not appear in GPS).
- Learn some important Korean sentences. For example: "How much?" is "Eolma eyo?" This is the most frequent Korean sentence I use there hahahha
- Make a list of the cosmetics you want to buy there! Because cosmetics like Etude House, Face Shop, innisfree are cheaper there, and if you buy a lot in one bill you can get tax refund and free samples!
